Where Do You Live?

The new and improved 2012 version of the “new Beetle” looks like Volkswagen tried hard to recapture the look and feel of the old Beetle. The giveaway is the roofline, particularly over the rear seats, which plunges off sharply after the rear seats instead of right on top of them.Precisely as in the original Type I Beetle for that very reason..And a good thing, as rear passengers in the New Beetle became very good friends of the rear window!Just like the original, the windscreen is more vertical too.

Car leasing is at least an economical way to keep pace with all the changes in car design.BMW’s GINA (Geometry and Functions In “N” Adaptations) is a throwback to the days of early aviation, with a fabric skin over a light aluminium sub frame instead of metal or plastic panels. The skin is moveable via electric and hydraulic controls, allowing the surface to be reshaped at will. The headlights are revealed when the covering fabric skin peels back, the rear panel shape shifts to from a spoiler and the radiator grille itself will also change shape according to ambient conditions. Don’t rush out immediately and expect this to be available under BMW contract hire though, not for the next 15 years at least according the German auto maker.

The ultimate in retro design must be the Chrysler PT (standing for Personal Transport no less) Cruiser.Described as the car that captures the ‘Spirit of America”, this was an attempt to combine modern practical features with the 1920s and 1930s era of high curvaceous cars with bold radiator grilles. The Audi e-tron is also a concept that may well be a candidate for Audi contract hire sooner than you think.  Although it’s very of the future promising 0-62 mph in just 4.8 seconds with 230kW and 4,500 Nm of torque available from four electric motors in each wheel, it still looks pretty much like the original Audi TT.Love them or loathe them, these retro inspired car designs do at least have the quality of character - something very rarely found in cars nowadays.
