Where Do You Live?

State:

It seems that you can control your car with the help of an iPod. Recently, Jonathan Oxer has presented his latest invention in the field, a program witch permits him to control from great distances a car, with the help of an Ipod touch. Jonathan has written some books over his carrier and had a good collaboration with several technological publications.

His application is an astonishing piece of technology, as he managed to include Dyno functions like speed reading, fuel level reading, temperature, engine throttle and so on with remote control functions like closing or opening doors and starting the car. The software it’s linked to a GSP and can offer full control regardless of the location, as it used Google Maps to localize the vehicle.

If your car has a computer, you will need to connect it to an inside car device, like a laptop, that has a wireless 3G modem witch will allow ipod access. Now, you can access the unique tracking number of the car from anywhere in the world. This means, anywhere at all, since commands will be received by the GPS system from satellite. So you can leave town and then remember you’ve left the truck open. You just push a button the ipod and problem solved. But this tracking and controlling from virtually anywhere is a bit dangerous, if someone manages to hack into the system.

Even if there are plenty things to consider before building an ipod remote control for the car, the basic idea is quite innovative. Of course, in the case you were to use such a device you will be needing an ipod car charger , so you will have access to the software at all times, and don’t risk having low battery on the device and realizing the car is locked and you can’t get in.

It’s amazing to understand where things are right now, with all the new inventions and technologies available. No one though that ipod would appear when they did, and now, no one even dreamt of making a remote control for a car out of an ipod. And still, the fact is here and is true, which makes us think about tomorrow’s breakthrough.
