Where Do You Live?

State:

The advantages of having a workhorse vehicle better known in South Africa as a ‘bakkie’, are infinite. We have all used the workhorse either when we moved to a different house, or bought new furniture or when we needed to transport heavy loads. When going camping we have put our tents, chairs and mattresses at the back with no problem.  Well now the faithful  bakkie who we have known and trusted for so many years just  got better as some models now come with drop sides.

Whether you are a tradesmen,  or are a small business owner, a farmer  or even just a normal guy who likes to get his hands dirty once in a while by doing his own home improvements you will have to agree that when it comes to vehicles for usage on the job, it does not come better than the bakkie. Until of course they made the drop side bakkie, which is the next generation of  bakkies.

When you need to load heavy objects onto a bakkie, it is usually the angels which can cause the biggest headache. Trying to get a heavy object such as a sofa for example needs to be loaded onto the bakkie at an angel, and this is where you need the extra space. Having a bakkie with drop sides makes this problem a thing of the past.

Structure of the drop side workhorse:

Essentially you have the flatbed at the back of the passenger section which you load your goods onto. The load box is usually closed on all sides made up of three panels, except for the rear panel which opens because it attached by hinges. All goods are on loaded or off loaded, at the rear of the vehicle only. The drop side bakkies are also made of a flatbed with three panels which are all attached with hinges. Meaning that you can now load heavy items onto the back much more easily than you could do it in the past. The panels can even come off completely if need be giving you complete freedom.  Instead of having to lift the heavy object and turn it so that it can be in the correct position before loading it onto the bakkie, you have much more space and the more comfort for ease movement of the goods.

Safety First
Always remember to securely tie your objects to the structure of the load box, that is a safety precaution which cannot be overly emphasised. Objects must be securely tired, using ropes made for this type of transportation, and it must be secured to the load box using retention rings and cam latches. If goods are not safely secured to the load box they can fall off, and can cause damage to the object and also accidents. Rather take the time to secure your load properly before you take off.

So there you have it! With the drop side workhorse, you load has just become a ton lighter. Just remember to always secure everything with ropes and you can be on your way.
