The Escalade's 2-mode hybrid system joins Cadillac's Vortec 6.0-Liter V8 motor with the brand's new Electrically Variable Transmission. The four gear transmission is aided by two electric motors. The V8 has GM's Active Fuel Management system, which shuts down four cylinders under light load conditions to conserve fuel.At stops and when idling the gas engine shuts off and restarts when needed, at the same time the electric motors propel the engine to work in the 4cylinder mode more often.
With light throttle, the electric motors can propel the 2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid up to 30 mph, but together the electric motor and gasoline engine produce 332 hp and 367lb.ft. of torque. A 300 volt battery pack is located under the second row seats and powers the electric motors, as well as the electric power steering system and electrically driven air conditioning compressor; regenerative braking will charge the batteries. The Hybrid comes available in either front of all wheel drive. But the hybrid powertrain is only available on the standard length Escalade.
As far as towing capability, the 2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid will be rated to tow up to 6000 pounds with rear wheel drive and 5700 pounds with all wheel drive.Interior wise, the Hybrid has a hybrid drive system showcased on an 8in. touch screen. This drive system lets the driver know which mode the SUV is running in. There are also green and red bars on an economy gauge that let drivers know what zones to drive in to recieve the improved fuel efficiency. The tachometer in the 2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid includes an Auto Stop reading that indicates when the gasoline engine is shut off.
